TIPS from SARAH YOUNG - The Wedding Planner

Do the bride and groom have the necessary leeway to exercise their creative talents and come up with original ideas?

It is their wedding.  They decide what they want to delegate to the wedding planner and how much they want to do themselves.  The wedding planner’s role is that of helper and facilitator.  This person’s main objective is that of minimising the stress inherent in planning a wedding while ensuring that all related tasks are completed on time by way of planning the perfect occasion to the satisfaction of the bride, the groom, relatives and guests.

When is the best time to have the wedding celebration?  Is it better to have it in the morning or in the evening ?

It is for the bride and groom to decide whether they want a morning or an evening celebration.  Such a decision depends partially on the size of the wedding budget.  During a morning reception guests tend to eat more and drink less alcohol than they would do during an evening reception.  More alcohol is consumed during an evening reception.  The other consideration to be made is that of ensuring the guests’ safe return home. Careful planning to avoid drink-driving is an integral part of  a carefully planned wedding.

What’s the trend regarding women wearing hats at a wedding?

It is the custom for women to wear hats at a morning wedding. They enhance the joyful atmosphere with their colours and elegance.  The wearer needs to be careful not to hurt others when she bends to kiss and hug friends and relatives. She needs to make sure that the hat is sitting firmly on her head so as to ensure that she does not have to go about holding it down if there is a wind blowing.  Hats need not be bought for the occasion.  There are firms that hire them out.
